Learning Objectives

  • Discuss partnership formation and contribution rules under Subchapter K.
  • Identify partner basis calculation methods and apply relevant adjustments.
  • Explain partnership distribution rules and sales of partnership interests.
  • Apply tax return filing rules for partnerships.
  • Analyze accounting period options for partnerships.
  • Recognize common IRS pitfalls in partnership compliance.

Course Overview

The IRS introduced a domestic filing exception to Schedules K-2 and K-3 beginning in early implementation years and continues to allow this exception (with updates) in current tax years. Under this rule, a domestic partnership may not need to file Schedules K-2 and K-3 if it meets specific criteria such as limited foreign activity, qualifying partners, and notification requirements.

Join this CE course to cover this latest update on Schedules K-2 and K-3.

This case-driven online continuing education training is designed to quickly get the inexperienced accountant up to speed in the most common areas of partnership, limited liability company (LLC), and limited liability partnership (LLP) taxation. A cornerstone of this course is the preparation of Form 1065 using a reasonably complex trial balance common to most partnerships, LLP, and LLC income tax returns.

Partnerships have specific tax reporting requirements that are different from other businesses. Partnership taxes are a two-step process: The partnership as an entity must report income, gains, losses, credits, and deductions, like other businesses. However, partnerships don't pay taxes on income. Instead, the partners pay taxes on their share of the partnership income they are paid. While the partnership pays its partners, the partners aren't employees and don't receive a W-2. Instead, the partnership supplies each partner copies of Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) which reports the partners' share of income, credits, and deductions. Here is more about how partnerships report to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the documents needed to file Federal Income Taxes for a partnership.

Certified public accountants are always looking for convenient ways to complete their continuing professional education requirements. With tax season rapidly approaching, there is no better time to brush up on your partnership income tax knowledge than now with myCPE webinar. The online CPE/CE webinar provides a comprehensive hands-on, pencil-pushing understanding of the preparation of partnership/LLC tax returns, along with the underlying laws, regulations, etc. This online CPE/CE course and instruction delivery is geared toward basic understanding and progresses to complex issues.

This online continuing education session is taught using a Hands-On methodology. Using a comprehensive trial balance, the participant will walk through the steps to prepare a complete and accurate Form 1065 (and related schedules).

  • Partnership Formation and Contributions

Mr. Garverick is an excellent trainer. I have done many webinars through MyCPE and he is definitely one of the best for the following reasons: 1.) His materials are up-to-date and thorough. 2.) He does a detailed explanation on how to use his materials. 3.) While you go through the material at a rapid pace, you can always see where he is at in the materials and are able to follow along. 4.) He goes through the material at a pace that is not too fast and not too slow. 5.) He focuses on important information. 6.) He explains things thoroughly with step by step examples. 7.) He tries to make things interesting even when it is a boring topic you don't have to deal with on a daily basis. I would definitely take more classes from him!

I really enjoyed the class. The instructor was very good at keeping me engaged. Tax classes are normally very boring but this instructor really held my attention. I also loved the way he broke it down so that beginners like me can understand it better. I also loved the hands-on workshop approach. It is much better than just listening to someone talk for hours. I really enjoyed this class and if you have other classes by this instructor I will definitely sign up for them.
