The Canadian sales tax landscape has changed significantly in the past two years.

Benjamin is a manager in BDO Canada’s Indirect Tax practice dealing with a variety of Indirect tax issues for resident and nonresident clients. Benjamin has 5 years experience dealing with Canadian Indirect taxes in both government and public accounting settings
Benjamin holds a Bacehlor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
Brian has more than 24 years’ experience providing indirect tax solutions, including GST/HST, QST and PST support to non-resident and resident manufacturers, distributors, charities, financial institutions, municipalities, universities/colleges, schools and hospitals to name a few. He also works with clients on resolving WSIB/WCB and EHT issues.
Brian specializes in assisting non-resident clients with Canadian sales and payroll tax issues.
Brian has authored many articles on indirect taxation and regularly presents as part of international conferences on taxation.
Outside of the office, Brian is a pilot and Juno-nominated professional musician that made the Grammy Ballot in the USA and won the prestigious Parents’ Choice Award in the USA.
Bruce is a director within the Indirect Tax practice in BDO’s Markham office, with more than 30 years of experience providing advice on indirect tax issues, including assistance with difficult tax audits, identifying and securing refunds of overpaid taxes, compliance and reporting, and accounting for indirect tax contingencies
Bruce’s clients range from global entities with footprints in Canada to owner-managed businesses in the automotive, manufacturing and distribution, real estate and construction, retail and consumer, and technology and life sciences sectors, as well as not-for-profit entities
Bruce has been a speaker at conferences and events, such as the Commodity Tax Symposium, Canadian Tax Foundation, and Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
Mélanie has over 20 years of indirect tax experience acquired in the corporate sector as well as in two major accounting firms and one consulting firm. Through all of these years of dealing with the federal and provincial tax authorities, she acquired an in-depth experience in dealing with the tax authorities, managing audits, filing objections and voluntary disclosures as well as filing ruling requests on behalf of many clients. She also assisted many non-resident clients with respect to their Canadian sales tax obligations. She always aims at using a practical approach when giving advices to her clients.
Mélanie obtained a law degree from the University of Sherbrooke and a Master in Taxation from the same University. Prior to joining BDO, she worked for Deloitte, PwC, Transcontinental Inc., Bombardier inc. and Ryan ULC.
She was also involved in the activities of the Tax Executives Institute (TEI), she is regularly asked to give conferences by the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF) and the Council on State Taxation (COST). She is also a member of the sub-committee of the APFF “Stratège – indirect tax”. Over the years, she also gave many trainings to her clients. Since 2017, she has been teaching at the micro program in consumption taxes offered at the University of Sherbrooke.
