  • Identify potential divorce-related financial challenges.

Course Overview

For some, divorce can be a time of discovering new opportunities and potential. For many, however, despite whatever ultimately comes out of divorce, the emotional and financial trauma takes a toll.

Financial trauma, or the lack of feeling safe and stable, impacts our thoughts and our actions. While this lack of stability can be resolved, the process of navigating these challenges can be years long.  When a marriage ends, life for both spouses often feels overwhelming. Many find it takes two to three years to feel ‘like themselves fully’.

This 1-hour CE/CPE course provides in-depth information on the strategies and issues regarding estate planning after a divorce. The goal is for you to bring value-add to your clients, especially when they are most vulnerable. New estate plans must be drawn up regardless of how divorce impacts the spouses. In this course, we’ll look at various asset classes and discuss titling, beneficiary designations to reduce or eliminate estate tax (and possibly probate), and a review of the estate planning documents needed.

This CPE Course is led by Ilene Slatko, a speaker and serial entrepreneur who currently provides financial education programs and coaches clients through the long list of administrative and financial tasks involved in the estate and divorce process. She spent over 30 years in the financial industry and has long been a resource for financial and accounting professionals.

Major Topics Covered:

  • Divorce Related Financial Challenges
  • The 7 Questions
  • Estate Documents
  • Last Will and Testament
  • Common Elements of a Trust
