  • Develop strategies for effective cross-border tax planning.

Course Overview

Unlike most U.S. and cross-border tax courses that primarily cover federal tax law, this course delves into the intricate web of U.S. state tax laws. With 50 states and the District of Columbia, each with its own legislature and unique tax laws and systems, cross-border tax takes on a new dimension, spanning not just country borders but also state boundaries.

Income, sales, franchise, and property taxes are among the many types of taxes. They are regulated at the state and sometimes city and county levels. According to the Tax Foundation, there are 11,000 taxing jurisdictions in the United States.

While this course won't cover all 11,000 taxing jurisdictions in the United States, it will provide a solid foundation in the basics of state and local taxation. This includes a detailed look at nexus, individual and corporate income taxation, sales and use taxes, and the new digital sales taxes.

Key topics covered:

  • Overview of US state taxes
  • Nexus requirements and implications for cross-border operations
  • Legal precedents and their impact on interstate commerce taxation
  • Strategies for tax compliance and efficient tax planning
  • Recent legislative changes affecting remote sellers and their implications

Join us for an insightful webinar exploring the intricate landscape of US state tax considerations for Canadian businesses. Led by seasoned legal experts, this course will delve into crucial topics, including income tax, sales tax nexus, property tax implications, and the impact of recent legal precedents. Discover strategies to navigate compliance challenges, understand nexus requirements, and optimize tax planning to enhance cross-border business operations. Whether new to US tax laws or seeking advanced insights, this webinar equips you with the essential knowledge to effectively manage your tax obligations and mitigate risks.
