"A state sales and use tax or income and franchise tax audit can be an intimidating experience, even for the most prepared corporate tax department.
A sales tax audit determines whether a business has collected and paid the correct amount of sales tax owed to the state for taxable transactions. Auditors examine financial documents and compare total sales revenue with sales that resulted in the collection of sales tax. The process also involves a review of sales tax payable against the sales tax the company paid.
Sales tax auditors examine federal income tax returns to reconcile the gross sales between the federal return, the sales tax return, and the sales recorded in accounting records. The IRS understands that many taxpayers won't agree with the findings of its auditors. Therefore, it has created a separate branch of service called the Office of Appeals.

Very interesting presentation by Mr. Browdy. SALT is a variable topic based on the states, commonwealths, protectorates, etc. I found the process for a methodic approach to be unique. I would recommend this presentation.
