Social Media Ethics: IRS Updates and AICPA Standards 2 Credits
Select your learning mode
Social media is a powerful tool, but it comes with risks for tax professionals. From sharing insights to engaging with clients, online interactions must align with ethical standards.
The IRS Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has raised concerns about how tax practitioners use social media, emphasizing compliance with Circular 230. Missteps—whether in advertising, confidentiality, or conflicts of interest—can lead to legal trouble, reputational damage, or even disciplinary action. The AICPA Code of Conduct also sets clear guidelines on the ethical responsibilities of CPAs, ensuring professionals uphold the integrity of the profession, both online and offline. Are you navigating these digital spaces responsibly?
This CE course explores the ethical challenges tax professionals face in social media engagement. You'll uncover risks tied to tax advice, endorsements, and professional boundaries. Through guidance from the OPR, practical case studies, and an overview of the ethical framework set forth by the AICPA, you will gain a thorough understanding of the best practices to safeguard both your reputation and your practice in today's digital world, helping them stay compliant in an ever-evolving digital world.
