Course Description

Formulas and functions are the bread and butter of Excel. They drive almost everything interesting and useful you will ever do in a spreadsheet. Mastering the basic Excel formulas is critical for beginners to become highly proficient in financial analysis. Microsoft Excel is considered the industry standard piece of software in data analysis. Microsoft’s spreadsheet program also happens to be one of the most preferred software by accounting and tax professionals in data processing, financial modeling, and presentation.

This CPE webinar introduces the basic concepts you need to know to be proficient with formulas in Excel. Built into Excel are over 475 functions - a potent set of power tools simplifying certain kinds of formulas and supplying you with a huge number of computational possibilities. Many Excel functions provide extended analytical capabilities and open the door to more efficient use of Excel. This session gives you perspective on :

  • What functions are available & how to use many of them (With extensive examples)
  • The IF function (with AND and OR), the widely-used VLOOKUP function
  • Selected Date, Statistical, Financial, and Mathematical functions
  • The frequently overlooked Text functions.

In addition, the powerful COUNTIF/SUMIF family of functions, as well as more recently introduced functions – XLOOKUP, XMATCH, FILTER, UNIQUE among them - are also covered.

Learning Objectives

  • How to look up information in tables and reconcile different lists using the VLOOKUP function; for specialized lookup needs, learn to use the MATCH and INDEX functions.
  • How to use the newer, and more powerful XLOOKUP function – it contains all the capabilities of VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP and is easier to use and can perform last-to-first searches.
  • How to locate all formulas in a worksheet; learn how to display all worksheet formulas
  • How to use selected Text functions to extract and manipulate character and numerical data for sorting and analytical purposes.
  • How to use selected Date and Time functions to tabulate ages, anniversary dates, day of the week, and other date-related calculations.
  • How to build 3-D formulas to tabulate data totals from multiple worksheets.
  • How to harness the power gained from using multiple functions in a nested fashion
  • How and when to use the expanded capabilities of the COUNTF family of functions and newer functions – UNIQUE, FILTER, SORT, SEQUENCE, and others.
  • How to use the powerful IF function and the related AND and OR functions for programming-like capability.
