Course Description

Investment consulting has a long history that has been marked by innovations occurring about every 10 years. It is incredible that “modern” portfolio theory is about 70 years old. It has stood the test of time and is currently embraced by many consultants. Every stock or bond has a risk and expected return. The big breakthrough is that combinations of stocks and bonds, called Diversification is an immensely powerful investment tool.

The original idea of “risk tolerance” is the maximum risk the client can tolerate because high risk earns high returns. This approach changed in the 1990s with the introduction of objective-based investing, discussed in this CPE webinar for CPAs and other professionals.

The risk questionnaires identify investor risk tolerance that is used to find the best model. The “60/40 rule” 60/40 equities/bonds emerged from this practice because most mappings gravitate towards limiting risk. The broad use of the 60/40 rule remains entrenched today.

However, evolution is incomplete. 60/40 stocks/bonds remain the pat solution, but it is not right for many investors, especially baby boomers.

it was an excellent webinar in that it provided me with an effective method to monitor my personal portfolio.

Other than scaring me senseless about retirement fund allocations, this was just excellent!! I will be following this group on social media as the information is very valuable to me even though I am not working in the financial planning area. Thanks so much for presenting it!

Great presentation. It is very relevant for me at this time of my life as I am about 10 years away from my retirement. I posted a question asking if there is a good time to rebalance my 401k investments at work. I hope to get a response via email. Thanks in advance

This seemed to have been recorded a year ago as some of the market information was outdated. Disappointed in that.
