Course Description

Course Description

Google remembers so we don't have to. And when we don't have to, we no longer can. Or can we?

Attention is something that can be deliberately developed and strengthened, which is particularly advantageous for professionals in high-stakes, information-oriented fields.

Fortunately, attention to detail is a learned skill, and it's one that you can cultivate! This webinar builds on the Attention Basics course, teaching techniques for increasing and sharpening focus based on cutting-edge research in attention.

Dr. Michelle Miller, author and research psychologist will answer all these questions that affect all professionals needing to maximize focus. Dr. Miller will draw on her recent book Remembering and Forgetting in the Age of Technology” and her research publications to discuss how different people focus differently, address common myths and misconceptions, and present strategies for building and strengthening attention.

In this highly interactive online CPE session, participants will consider their unique strengths and challenges, and identify strategies that meet their own needs.

Major Topics Covered in this Personal Development Course:

  • Why attention is a particularly complex topic within psychology and neuroscience
  • How technologies including video games affect and shape the ability to pay attention
  • The brain’s “default mode network” and how mind wandering may be beneficial
  • Individual differences and “breadth orientation” versus “focus orientation”
  • Surprising ways that attention and focus can fail due to distraction
  • Methods for strengthening attention include meditation, mindfulness, and contact with the natural world

Learning Objectives
