Course Description

Course Description

Congress created the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) in 1986, and it became effective on January 1, 1987. While some may be covered under CSRS, most current civilian employees are covered by FERS.

Taking control of your career and your retirement assets is one way to build peace of mind as you progress through your career. Each piece of the FERS puzzle is designed to work together and if correctly applied, can provide a robust retirement.

This CPE Course on Retirement Planning reviews those pieces of your retirement puzzle that are found in good generational planning. Less strictly related to FERS than previous sessions in this course, the estate planning information we discuss here deepens prior conversations about Wills and Trusts and discusses titling, personal property, and other considerations when planning to leave assets to beneficiaries. In this final session of the FERS course, we finish building each participant’s FERS retirement puzzle.

FERS does not cover military personnel or employees of state or local governments. Employees under FERS receive retirement benefits from three sources: the basic benefit plan, Social Security, and the Thrift Savings Plan, or TSP.

Wherever you are in your career with the federal government, this CPE Finance webinar will give you the tools and knowledge to make the choices necessary to have a successful financial future.
