Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a designation given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to individuals that pass the Uniform CPA Examination and meet the education and experience requirements. The CPA designation helps enforce professional standards in the accounting industry. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is the highest accounting credential in the United States. CPA ensures global recognition for accounting & finance professionals.

The Board of Accountancy assures the public that the CPA profession in Colorado operates at the highest level of professional competence through, verification of education and experience credentials.

80 hours biennially

November 30th of odd-numbered years

Ethics Requirement
Four (4) hours of CPE must be in ethics, of which two (2) hours may be in Colorado Rules & Regulation

Colorado CPA requires 80 hours of CPE to be completed in every reporting cycle, From January 1 to December 31 biennially, and must be reported to the Board by December 31st biennially in odd years as part of the renewal process.

All licensed CPAs in Colorado must complete 80 hours of approved continuing education in every two-year license period. No more than 50 percent of CPE can be in any combination of teaching or publishing an article or book.

Online renewal may require you to upload your CPE certificates of completion. If you are not required to upload your certificates of completion, you should keep your copies in case the board performs an audit of your CPE, you will be responsible for submitting copies of your certificates of completion and/or verification of courses at the time of the audit. You must retain your documentation for at least five (5) years from the date the program was completed. Verification by the CPE program sponsor (signature, seal, or other similar indicia)

The annual license renewal fees for Colorado (CO) CPA is $77

No, Colorado state board does not allow courses completed via short video (nano learning method) to counts towards the CPA CPE requirement.

A registrant must report, at a minimum, the CPE hours required for the registration renewal period. Hours that exceed the number required for the current registration renewal period may not be carried forward to a subsequent registration renewal period.

You are in non-compliance if you do not complete at least 80 hours of acceptable CPE by December 31 and it will result in disciplinary action by the board
