Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a designation given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to individuals that pass the Uniform CPA Examination and meet the education and experience requirements. The CPA designation helps enforce professional standards in the accounting industry. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is the highest accounting credential in the United States. CPE Requirements
80 hours every 2 years, with a minimum of 20 hours per year
License Renewal Period
December 31 Biennially in odd-numbered years
CPE Reporting Cycle
January 1 to December 31 Biennially in odd-numbered years
Ethics Requirement
Four (4) hours of ethics in every 2-years 
Carry Over Credits
Pennsylvania CPA cannot carry forward credits in the next reporting cycle
Subject Area Restriction
None. (Pennsylvania CPA can earn CPE Credits from NASBA Approved CPE Providers as long as it directly relates to the professional competence of the person

Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy has a mandatory requirement that Pennsylvania (PA) CPA has to earn at least 4 hours of CPE in a 2-year renewal period in the subject area of ethics. Regulatory AICPA Ethics, Circular 230 Ethics or Behavioural Ethics all subject areas are approved for qualifying as ethics.
