Each tax year brings a new set of challenges and opportunities for tax professionals, and the 2025 filing season is no exception. This year introduces a significant wave of taxpayer-favored provisions, making it essential for practitioners to understand how these rules apply in real-world scenarios.

The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (OBBB) reshapes the landscape by repealing many TCJA sunset provisions, creating new ones, and adding fresh tax benefits for individual taxpayers. As clients look to tax professionals for clear guidance, it becomes critical to interpret the changes accurately and anticipate areas where Treasury will provide further clarification.

This session offers a high-level yet practical overview of major OBBB provisions affecting individual taxpayers—including adjustments to tip and overtime income, the senior deduction, new car loan interest deduction, SALT modifications, and updates to the child tax credit. Given the breadth of changes, the session concentrates on the most significant issues tax professionals must understand to navigate the 2025 filing season with confidence.

Major Topics:

• OBBB Individual Provisions
 • Senior & Auto Deductions
 • Tip & Overtime Deductions
 • Itemized Deduction Changes
 • Treasury Interpretation Issues
 • Reporting Requirements Overview

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the major OBBB provisions that impact individual taxpayers
  • Explain how the senior tax deduction and new car loan interest deduction apply
  • Apply rules related to the partial deduction for tip and overtime income
  • Recognize changes to itemized deductions, including SALT and charitable contribution limitations
  • Describe areas where Treasury guidance and interpretation will be required
  • Illustrate correct reporting requirements for selected OBBB tax provisions

Business tax rules are shifting again, and employers are feeling the pressure to stay ahead. Have you wondered how the new OBBB Act affects everyday payroll practices, tip reporting, overtime tracking, or year-end compliance? Many updates in recent IRS notices look simple on the surface, yet the real impact shows up in reporting requirements, deductions employees may claim, and the obligations employers must meet. This CE session breaks down these changes in clear, practical terms so you can approach year-end with confidence.

We walk through the latest rules for qualifying overtime under Section 7 of the Fair Labor Standards Act, the new way tips must be tracked and reported, and what counts as a deductible “qualifying tip.” You’ll also explore the updated QBI rules for 2026, how tip deductions interact with Schedule C filers, and the surprising situations where contractors might receive reportable overtime or tips. Key updates to Forms W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, and 1099-K are explained, helping payroll teams and advisors stay compliant under the new structure.

Major Topics-

  • FLSA Overtime Qualification
  • Tip Reporting Requirements
  • Updated 2026 Forms
  • QBI Threshold Changes
  • Employer Meal Limitations

This CE virtual session gives you the clarity and practical insight needed to navigate the latest tax rules with confidence. Join us to break down the most important employer-side updates shaping 2025 and 2026.

Handouts should be made available prior to the conference presentations. In the case of Ms. Meyer's and Mr. Curatola's presentations there were no handouts available at the time of the presentation. In the case of Mr. Bergstein's presentation there were handouts referred to, some of which were not covered. Mr. Dinesen referred to his handouts during his presentation. The handouts included examples. Handouts for each of the presenters were made available after the Virtual Conference ended. There were serious timing problems during this Virtual Conference regarding Polling Questions particularly with Ms. Meyers and Mr. Curatola's presentations.
