Conference Overview

The massive changes 2020 brought to where we work, how we learn, and the technologies we use to stay connected is escalating the importance of HR’s role within organizations. The 2020 was the big reset moment for HR.

As the pandemic resets major work trends, HR leaders need to rethink workforce and employee planning, management, performance and experience strategies.

As the age-old saying goes, "elections have consequences." For the first time in a decade, the democratic party has control of both chambers of congress, as well as the presidency. As a result of last November’s election, the federal government has seen a seismic shift in direction as policies and regulations from the previous Trump administration are reversed and the new Biden administration pushes new proposals aimed to dramatically affect the employment landscape. During this time, the federal courts have also been busy continuing to interpret old laws in surprising new ways. This session will discuss the change in administration and how it has impacted the agencies responsible for enforcing federal employment laws, as well as what employers need to be aware of to remain compliant in the year ahead.

This year, the virtual format will continue to bring together the HR community and provide HR professionals access to the latest trends, technologies, and best practices from some of the industry’s greatest thought leaders.

Whether you are a seasoned HR professional or you are new into a HR role, this conference is for you. You will hear from professionals, both HR practitioners as well as consultants, regarding the latest topics of interest in the world of HR. This CPE event is packed full with educational sessions, sponsor and exhibitor information, and networking opportunities.

In today's constant state of change, we are all looking for ways to grow, adapt, and remain resilient amid uncertainty.

Discover how a growth mindset can set you up for success in 2022 and beyond by attending this CPE HR Conference.

Paying employees is one of the most important parts of doing business.  Employees work to be paid so making sure they are paid timely and correctly is crucial to your business.  How do I calculate their pay?  How do I know how much to withhold?  How often do I pay?  Which taxes do I withhold?  Taxes are complex and making sure you are in compliance is very important.  This is money that you are withholding from an employee’s wages and there are serious consequences for not paying these taxes.  Fines and penalties can be assessed for companies who fail to pay taxes properly to the extent that their business can be shut down.

Laws constantly change and keeping up on payroll laws can be daunting.  Attending this session will give you the basic knowledge of how and what items you need to pay your employees, how to calculate their pay, what taxes to withhold, how to pay in those taxes, and better knowledge of payroll in general to help keep you in compliance.  Details of how to calculate taxes and what reports are required will be discussed along with how often they must be paid.  Whether you are new to processing payroll taxes or you are the Owner trying to understand more about what you are paying you will want to attend and get a better understanding of the in’s and out’s of payroll.

Learning Objectives

  • To describe what forms are needed to process employee’s pay.
  • To determine how to calculate your employee’s pay.
  • To review what taxes must be withheld from employees.
  • To determine how and where to pay employee and employer taxes and the associated responsibilities.
  • To discuss deadlines for payment of taxes and fines and penalties that can be assessed.

Planning for retirement starts with thinking about your retirement goals and how long you have to meet them. To have a comfortable, secure—and fun—retirement, you need to build the financial cushion that will fund it all. The key part of the same is to build strong planning to reach there.

Retirement planning includes identifying sources of income, estimating expenses, implementing a savings program, and managing assets and risk. Future cash flows are estimated to determine if the retirement income goal will be achieved.

However, retirement planning is a multi-step process and in most cases, it evolves over time. This Online CPE/CE Session takes a long-term approach to the retirement plan that starts with ERISA. It also includes the change in careers over the long period of time that a professional may take. This is a remarkably valuable addition that covers a wide range of requirements of the population. Detailed description and included calculations make the CPE session more relevant for the simplicity of understanding and comparison.

This Online CPE session covers the following key topics:

  • Requirements of Plan Fiduciaries and potential liabilities
  • Different Allocation Methods for Profit-Sharing Plans
  • 401(k) Safe Harbor Match versus Non-Elective Contributions
  • 1 or 2 Person Defined Benefit/Defined Contribution Combo Plans
  • Cash Balance Combination Plans

Learning Objectives

  • To identify the requirements of Qualified Plan Fiduciaries
  • To recall how best to prepare for a DOL audit
  • To explore different Qualified Retirement Plan types
  • To recognize and compare the differences of each Qualified Retirement Plan type.
  • To assess, evaluate and determine the best Qualified Retirement Plan for a business or business owner.
