Women are leading the charge to improve workplace culture. We are influencing positive changes by advocating for wellness, work-life balance, flexible work schedules, and community building. While our desire to change the workplace is one part of the equation, having the skills to impact these changes requires unique skill sets.

That’s where the need for power skills emerges. Power skills is a contemporary term we use to describe what we once called “soft skills.” In today’s work environment, skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, productivity, and project management are critical to every employee’s performance and most women naturally possess these skills. These skills not only set you apart from the competition but are also some of the most desired skills employers are looking for today.

Join us in this online course for a POWERFUL discussion about POWER SKILLS and how women can leverage them to make career moves and impact the changes they want to see in the workplace.

Learning Objectives

  • To analyze the concept of power skills.
  • To identify the critical power skills required in today's work environment, such as leadership, teamwork, communication, productivity, and project management.
  • To discuss the role of women in shaping the future of work.
  • To explain how to leverage power skills to make career moves and positively impact the type of change desired in the workplace.

What is leadership? The dictionary describes a leader as a "person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country" and leadership as "the state or position of being a leader".

Is the dictionary definition of leadership accurate? Real leadership is not just a position, but a learned set of skills that allow individuals to effectively influence others towards achieving a common goal. The challenge is finding the right skillsets for leadership.

Ilene Slatko has had a long and successful career that spans over 40 years. She has held various leadership positions, including leading a flagship financial advisory office, and a regional sales office, and serving on non-profit boards. Currently, she leads clients in her firm, and through her experiences, she has gained insights into the skills necessary for effective leadership.

In this CPE Personal development session, Ilene will share her knowledge about the skills that top leaders possess and how to apply them in both small and large organizations. The session will be presented in vignettes, and Ilene will provide relatable experiences and humorous descriptions to help participants develop the skills and tools needed to become better leaders.

This course is led by Ilene Slatko, a speaker and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in the financial industry, leads a course that provides coaching, e-learning, and resources for pre-retirees and retirees, in addition to advising clients on administrative and financial tasks related to estate and divorce.

Whether you're leading a small group or a large organization, this course will provide you with the skills and tools you need to succeed.

Learning Objectives

  • To explain top skills for leaders.
  • To explore how to apply and use those skills in the achievement of a goal.
  • To identify the attributes generally attributed to women that help make us natural leaders.
  • To compare and contrast new leadership models with older models.
  • To discuss why the new leadership models are better and more effective.

Why is the finance profession still failing to attract women?

Women make up 26.4% of finance professionals in the United States and that ratio has been relatively unchanged for more than a decade.  Why are current efforts failing? What are the barriers for women in finance?  What can be done?

A large emphasis has been placed on getting more girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in recent years, but there has not been a large success.  The same barriers to STEM careers exist for finance and accounting when it comes to women.  While establishing a pipeline of women into college degree fields in finance and accounting is crucial, it is also a long-range solution.

What can we do today to encourage more women to pursue careers in finance?  It’s complicated, and it will take effort from all sides.

A change in perception of finance careers and the skillsets necessary, as well as engaging both men and women currently in the profession to be active role models can help break down some of the barriers.

This CPE Finance class takes a deep dive beyond the statistics and potential drivers into tactical actions by both men and women that can help drive more women into the finance profession today.

Learning Objectives

  • To evaluate current initiatives and strategies aimed at increasing the number of women in finance, and identify areas where improvements can be made.
  • To explore the impact of gender bias and stereotypes on women's career choices in finance, and develop strategies to counteract them.
  • To educate both men and women in the finance profession about the benefits of gender diversity and provide training on how to be effective allies and advocates.

I really enjoyed the program so much so that I will be sharing it with my CFO. The presenters did a wonderful job, and I can tell they were experts on the subject matter. My only comment was for a couple of the poll questions, the results were not disclosed on how the participants answered which is totally fine but I was just curious. If you are paying attention, the answers are pretty obvious. I really loved the program. I do hope a recording is available for participants who want to re-listen and go back to some things for reference. The materials were very helpful for each session.
