CPA CPE Requirements Michigan Overview

CPE Requirements
40 hours of CPE every continuing education year (July 1 – June 30)
License Renewal Period
July 31 biennially.
CPE Reporting Cycle
July 1 – June 30 of each continuing education year.
Ethics Requirement
Michigan (MI) CPA must earn at least 4 hours in the subject area of ethics including at least 1 hour of MI-specific ethics every 2 years with a minimum of 2 hours of ethics every year.
Carry Over Credits
Excess credit can be carried forward up to 40 hours of CPE in the next year with a maximum of 2 hours in ethics and 8 hours in Accounting & Auditing.
Subject Area Restriction
Minimum 8 hours in Accounting & Auditing in every continuing education year.

Simplifying Regulations for 2024

CPE Requirements
40 hours CPE every continuing education year, i.e., 80 for every 2 years.
Initial CPE Hours
New licensees are not required to earn CPE for the 12-month period beginning on the date of his/her original license.
Ethics Requirement
4 ethics hours every 2 years, including 1 Michigan -specific hour, and at least 2 hours annually.
Content Requirement
Minimum 8 hours Accounting/Auditing & 2 hours Ethics annually.
