CPE Requirements

Complete 80 CPE hours each biennial reporting period. At least 20 hours must be completed in each year of the reporting period.

License Renewal Period

PA permits expire on June 30 of odd-numbered years and must be renewed every two years before expiration.

CPE Reporting Cycle

The reporting cycle is biennial and ends on June 30 of each odd-numbered year.

Ethics Requirement

Each renewal cycle must include 4 hours in a Board-approved Delaware-specific ethics course. View webinar.

Carry Over Credits

Delaware LPAs cannot carry over excess credits to the next reporting cycle.

Subject Area Restriction

At least 40 of the 80 hours must be in accounting, auditing, and/or taxation, including the specific 8 accounting/auditing hours, 8 taxation hours, and 4 Delaware ethics hours. Remaining hours may be in other qualifying general subjects that contribute to professional competence. See details.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CPE Requirement

Earn 80 CPE hours every two years, with at least 20 hours completed in each year of the cycle.

Ethics Requirement

Complete 4 hours of Board-approved Delaware-specific ethics during each biennial cycle.

Initial CPE Hours

If your initial permit was issued less than 1 year before the next renewal date, no CPE is required for that cycle. If it was issued at least 1 year but less than 2 years before renewal, you need 40 hours for that cycle, and the 20-hours-per-year minimum is waived.

Subject Areas

Delaware accepts general subject matters that contribute to professional competence, including accounting, auditing, business law, communications and marketing, software and applications, economics, finance, IT and data analytics, management services, personnel and business management, regulatory ethics, personal development, specialized knowledge, and taxation. Learning Modes

No more than 30% of CPE can be completed through self-study.

Eligible Learning Activities

Accepted learning activities include group learning and group internet-based programs, self-study, blended learning, nano-learning, qualifying college or university courses, authorship of publications, specialized group learning, and technical committee work. Instructor or developer credit is capped at 50% of the reporting-period requirement, author credit at 25%, and the combined total for specialized group learning and technical committee work at 25%.

CPE Deadline

Complete the required CPE no later than June 30 of each odd-numbered renewal year.

Reporting Period

The reporting period is the immediately preceding 2-year period ending June 30 of each odd-numbered year.

License Renewal

Renew the permit in DELPROS before June 30 of each odd-numbered year. If you miss the deadline, the permit expires, and you may renew late for up to 1 year by paying the renewal fee plus a late fee; you cannot practice while the permit is expired. If you do not renew within 1 year, the permit terminates.

Carry Over Credits

The current rules do not provide a carryforward allowance. Only CPE completed in the immediately preceding 2-year period counts toward renewal.

Record Retention

Keep evidence supporting completed CPE for 5 years after completion of the educational activity.
