CPE Requirements
20 hours for practicing and 10 hours for non-practicing QIAL® certified Professionals annually.
License Renewal Period
Renew your license by December 31 of each year.
CPE Reporting Cycle
The reporting period is from January 1st to December 31st each year.
Ethics Requirement
2 hours annually on subjects focusing on ethics.
Carry Over Credits
A maximum of 10 hours of surplus CPE acquired during a calendar year may be used for the following calendar year reporting cycle.
Subject Area Restriction
There is no minimum content requirement.

Simplifying Regulations for 2026

CPE Requirement
Practicing QIAL® certified professionals must complete 20 CPE hours annually, while non-practicing QIAL® certified professionals must complete 10 hours annually.
Initial CPE Hours
Newly certified individuals begin earning CPE from the certification date; and their first cycle ends on December 31 of the following year.
Ethics Requirement
Every QIAL® certified professional must complete 2 hours of ethics training annually.
Learning Modes 
All CPE can be completed through self-study, provided the courses are aligned with IIA CPE Guidelines.
Eligible Learning Activities
Includes self-study programs, live webinars, college courses, professional exams (up to 40 hours), authorship (up to 10 hours), translations (up to 10 hours), presentations (up to 10 hours), volunteer roles (up to 10 hours), and  more.
CPE Deadline
All credits must be earned and reported by December 31 each year.
License Renewal
Certification Renewal for the current year must be completed by 31 December each year. If renewal is not completed, the certification moves to the Grace Period (Inactive). After 24 months in inactive status, the certification is permanently revoked.
Carry Over Credits
Up to 10 hours of surplus CPE earned in a calendar year can be applied to the next year's reporting cycle.
Record Retention
All supporting documentation must be retained for at least three years and provided upon request during an audit.
Renewal Fees
Annual Certification Renewal fees vary according to IIA membership status, certification(s) held, and the location of the certified individual. For the most current information regarding renewal fees, visit the board website.

No. Holders in Grace, Expired, or Revoked status may not display their certification after their name nor use the benefits of holding the IIA designation.
