The Agile Scrum project management methodology is being widely adopted. The methodology is a sharp departure from what had been considered to be project management best practices for many years.
Scrum is a framework that helps teams work together. Much like a rugby team (where it gets its name) training for the big game, scrum encourages teams to learn through experiences, self-organize while working on a problem, and reflect on their wins and losses to continuously improve.
This CPE/CPD webinar focuses on the Agile Scrum methodology and the key roles and responsibilities of various individuals.
While the scrum I’m talking about is most frequently used by software development teams, its principles and lessons can be applied to all kinds of teamwork. This is one of the reasons scrum is so popular. Often thought of as an agile project management framework, scrum describes a set of meetings, tools, and roles that work in concert to help teams structure and manage their work.
Scrum is one of the agile methodologies designed to guide teams in the iterative and incremental delivery of a product. Often referred to as “an agile project management framework,” its focus is on the use of an empirical process that allows teams to respond rapidly, efficiently, and effectively to change. The involvement of the business throughout the project is critical as Scrum relies heavily on the collaboration between the team and the customer or customer representative to create the right product in a lean fashion.
This CPE business management webinar will also focus on the Agile Scrum Sprint planning including the preparation of the Product Backlog and Story Cards. In addition, an emphasis is placed on the Sprint Planning process.
While the Agile Scrum methodology is not applicable for all projects; for certain types of projects it is far superior to traditional project management. In the Agile Scrum methodology, the project management roles are different, the planning approach is different, and the tracking approach is different, from traditional project management.

Ray is author of the book, Guide to Building Your Business Case, published by Harvard Business Review Press and a contributor to the book, Guide to Project Management, also published by Harvard Business Review Press. Ray teaches process improvement, digital transformation, project management, product development and strategy development topics through Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts.
Ray received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and his M.S. in Astronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has recently completed a graduate certificate in Digital Leadership and Strategy from Boston University. He also attended numerous business management and executive management training programs while at GE. Ray is a Fellow at the Institute for Digital Transformation and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
