According to the indictment, Hunter "willfully failed" to file his tax returns on time for 2017 and 2018 and used false business deductions on his 2018 return to lower his big tax bill as of February 2020. 

Hunter Biden’s charges were tax evasion, filing a false personal tax return and a false corporate tax return, and six misdemeanor charges for failing to pay and file taxes on time. Hunter's lawyers argue that his struggles with alcohol and cocaine addictions, which he’s been open about, were behind his failure to pay.

Hunter Biden’s trial is expected to dive into his income from foreign business deals, including the millions he made while serving on the board of the Ukrainian company Burisma Holdings Limited, among other ventures.

These deals have been a long-time target for House Republicans, who have tried to link them to President Biden, though no direct evidence has been found showing the President's involvement. 
• Upcoming Sentencing on Gun Charges: In June, Hunter was convicted on three felony counts for illegally purchasing a gun while struggling with drug addiction. His sentencing is set for November 13, and while he faces up to 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines, it’s unlikely that he’ll receive the maximum sentence.
