Course Description

Course Description

Excel expert David H. Ringstrom, CPA, teaches the basics of using Excel pivot tables in this beneficial webcast. Pivot tables empower users to easily create reports from complex data simply by using their mouse. Pivot tables, as is the case with many Excel features, have nuances that can trip up the unaware user, so David explains some traps and shares tricks to help ensure the reports you create are accurate

David demonstrates every technique at least twice in this excel CPE course: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, in the subscription-based Office 365 version of Excel. David draws your attention to any differences in the older versions of Excel (2019, 2016, 2013, and earlier) during the presentation as well as in his detailed handouts. David also provides an Excel workbook that includes most of the examples he uses during the webcast.

Office 365 is a subscription-based product that provides new feature updates as often as monthly. Conversely, the perpetual licensed versions of Excel have feature sets that don’t change. Perpetual licensed versions have year numbers, such as Excel 2019, Excel 2016, and so on.

This online Excel CPE webinar covers the following key topics:

  • Distinguishing the differences among pivot table-related menus in Excel 2013 and later versus older versions of Excel.
  • Contrasting sorting data within worksheets to the nuances of sorting data within pivot tables.
  • Filtering pivot tables to show fewer columns and/or rows of data.
  • Adding rows to a blank pivot table to create instant reports.
  • Creating a pivot table to transform lists of data into on-screen reports.
  • Contrasting sorting data within worksheets to the nuances of sorting data within pivot tables.
  • Identifying the ideal data for analysis with Excel’s PivotTable feature.
  • Adding rows to a blank pivot table to create instant reports.
  • Determining which refresh commands in Excel update a single pivot table versus all pivot tables in a workbook.
  • Drilling down into the details behind any amount within a pivot table with just a double-click.
  • Discovering four different ways to remove data from a pivot table report.

Learning Objectives

  • To identify how to expand and collapse groups of data within a pivot table.
  • To identify the best approach for formatting numbers within pivot tables.
  • To define the default location for pivot table data when you click a checkbox for a given field.

Great course so far I'm enjoying the Instructor Leila's teaching on walking you thru for excel training. I appreciate the tips and hints as I jotted down to remember until I become more familiar and experienced of working alone within excel.

This was a great course. I thought I knew excel pretty, but there was so much that I didn't know. She explained the concepts very well, great example worksheets, and so many tips to make my life easier. Thank you. I will be downloading more of your courses!

This course is concise, gets to the point, and Leila has such knowledge of scenarios that she tells you how to act in more than one of them. There is a good amount of resources that will be helpful even after you complete the course. I also like how David and her instructor team encouraged me to participate in the Q&A sections, recognizing my contributions to the course, and talking with me in detail when I found a feature or issue that needed further discussion. There are tons of Excel courses in myCPE, but this is one of the top dogs to get if you're just starting and want to hone your skills on all basic fronts of the tool.
