VERMONT (VT) CPA CPE REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW

CPE Requirements
80 hours biennially.
License Renewal Period
Renew your license by 31st July on odd years.
CPE Reporting Cycle
August 1 to July 31 biennially on odd years.
Ethics Requirement
Each licensee must complete four (4) hours of continuing education in the subject area of ethics for accountants.
Carry Over Credits

Vermont CPA can carry over a maximum of 10 credits from one biennium to the next.

Subject Area Restriction
  • Minimum eight (8) hours of continuing education in the subject area of accounting and auditing.
  • Self-realization, Spirituality, Personal health or fitness, Sports and recreation, Foreign languages or cultures; and any other subjects that do not contribute directly to the licensee's professional competence are not allowed for CPE.

Portions of such meetings devoted to the communication and application of general professional policy or procedure may qualify; but portions devoted to firm administrative, financial, and operating matters generally will not qualify.

Applicants for renewal of licenses shall file with their applications a signed statement affirming that they have completed the required continuing professional education programs. CPE documentation must be retained by CPAs for the five years after the completion of the course.

The following documentation must be maintained by Licensees:

  • Sponsoring organization
  • Location of program
  • Title of program or description of the content
  • Dates attended; and
  • Hours completed.
