Course Overview

Nowadays, plaintiffs are pushing the boundaries of discrimination law by asserting lifestyle discrimination claims based on sexual orientation, gender identity, physical appearance, pornography, body piercings, tattoos, smoking, and other potentially sensitive personal matters.

A server at a restaurant was fired because of the tattoos on his wrists, and he was eventually rewarded with $150,000 in damages.

Companies need to strike a balance between enforcing proper attire from their staff members and upholding their legal rights. Establishing a balance between conservative employees who prefer more formal business clothes and those who desire the freedom to dress whenever they like is crucial.

Mr. Chartier has touched an area with great applicability to a CPA/CA firm as a profession. Client expectation is a function of client base. At the hourly rate, my clients DESERVE seeing a professional in a shirt, tie, dress slacks, and at least a sports coat. Not all in our firm agree.
