Course Overview

In today's rapidly evolving economy, many workers are balancing full-time jobs with side gigs or working remotely from home. This brings up crucial questions about how to manage taxes when using your home for business purposes. Whether it's a dedicated home office or simply a corner carved out for remote work, understanding the rules surrounding the deductibility of these expenses is vital. This course will walk you through the tax implications of operating a business from your residence and offer guidance on how to ensure compliance with IRS regulations.

Tony Curatola will dive into the key tax rules governing home businesses, highlighting what qualifies as a home office, how to record business-related expenses, and how to apply the appropriate deductions. As the gig economy grows, more people are finding ways to run businesses from home, reducing overhead costs by avoiding expensive office leases. In addition, we introduce and apply the changes in bonus and IRC §179 depreciation by OBBB that are effective for 2025. This course provides special considerations when selling a property used for both business and personal purposes.

Major Topics:

  • Home Office Business Expense
  • Home Office Deductibility Rules
  • Safe Harbor Rule Advantages
  • Remote Work Tax Compliance
  • Selling Home Tax Considerations
  • OBBB Bonus and §179 Updates
  • 2025 SALT Deduction Provisions

By attending this CE course, you will gain clarity on the tax rules for home-based businesses and be equipped with the knowledge to handle these tax matters confidently. Don't miss out on this valuable opportunity to ensure that you're maximizing your deductions while staying compliant with the tax laws.

The instructor made the time go relatively quickly and covered all aspects of having a home office (which I have). The detail of what is included in the basis of a home was very helpful. I was incorrectly under the impression that all closing costs were included .

I saw one error in the beginning (effective date of 1099 threshold is not the 2025 year, but is effective in 2026 at 2k). The course overall was extremely helpful though.
