Learning Objectives

  • Analyze state sales tax compliance requirements.
  • Explain how to set up customers and products for proper tax calculation.
  • Identify how to collect sales tax.
  • Discuss how to pay the correct sales tax to your state’s Department of Revenue.

Course Overview

Calculating and reporting State Sales Tax correctly can be particularly tricky.

QuickBooks Online has a new sales tax calculator that takes the pain out of manually calculating local sales tax. Many states, counties, and cities have their tax rates; however, QBO can now assess the rate for you, calculate your tax liability, and (in some states) allow you to pay right inside QBO.

In this CPE QBO webinar, we’ll look at how to set up the sales tax center properly, assign tax rates to products and services, set Customer defaults, get sales tax liability reports, and remit taxes to the State. Take advantage of this easy, accurate, and automated feature!

Key Topics:

  • Understanding and Setting Up Sales Tax in QBO
  • Managing Sales Tax Collection and Payments
  • Navigating QBO’s Sales Tax Center and Reporting
  • Troubleshooting Sales Tax and Payment Issues
  • Limitations of QBO’s Sales Tax Features

Great job - very informative and learned a lot that helped me correct some mistakes that I have made in the past. One recommendation is that as you introduce items such as the Economic Nexus Tracker, that you say what versions of QBO the item is available in - for instance, it is not usable in the least expensive QBO version - the menu item is there but when you click it, you don't get any of the options you showed in the class.
