Mr. Garverick's presentation style makes learning tax topics enjoyable while stressing highly relevant issues tax professionals should be knowledgeable about. It isn't easy keeping an audience's attention over 8 hours, so his light humor is very welcome. This class was an intensive study of an S Corporation return that covered myriad tax laws that seemed highly relevant and on point. In my opinion, the retained earnings account should not be part of the chart of accounts for an S corporation unless, of course, the entity was once a C corporation that converted. In the same vein, dividends don't make sense to me for an S Corp but might be reflected in an E&P account as an artifact of a previous C Corp status.

The presentation was very detailed and gave a great walk-through of a sample 1120-S---exactly what I was looking for. The PDF handout will also prove helpful as a reference guide. I wish I took this course before I completed my first 1120-S this tax season, particularly in understanding the M-1, M-2 portions of the return and how basis is supposed to be properly calculated. I am registered for other CPE course that have Mr. Garverick as the presenter and I am looking forward to them. Thank you. David Kay, CPA
