Course Overview

Many people have heard of blockchains but are not sure what they are or how they work. You might know that blockchains are used for cryptocurrency transactions, but are you aware of the other business and accounting uses for blockchain technology?

Blockchain is a technology that effectively connects people or companies in a direct way or on a peer-to-peer basis. For the past 20 years, people have shared information through the internet. They have sent emails, posted to social media, and shared documents. Blockchain takes the connectivity of the internet one step further. Blockchain offers users the internet of value.

As opposed to exchanging only information, participants can now also exchange value on a peer-to-peer basis. Although most commonly associated with Bitcoin and other crypto assets, blockchain technology supports both applications and complex programming.

Blockchain will disrupt the accounting world, it is a threat to some accounting roles and not the accounting profession, but an opportunity that makes the accountant’s job more fun. The future accountant must have a flair for IT and not just numbers. The accountant must work closely with the IT department so that they understand one another’s language.

This CPE course will explore current and possible future uses for blockchain technology in businesses, government entities, and the accounting and auditing profession. Examples of how blockchains work will be provided for the participants.

Lay the foundation for your future as a strategic business partner within your organization and with your clients. With real-world literacy on blockchain and digital assets, you will be equipped with the foundational constructs behind blockchain and crypto assets, structure, and functionality, as you consider the value of implementing this technology into your organization.

With the help of this Accounting CPE webinar, you can learn the characteristics of blockchain and digital assets, identify opportunities and risks, as well as understand high-level technology concepts underpinning blockchain.
