Learning Objectives

  • To identify how criminals commit acts of cyber fraud.
  • To explain cyber security internal controls that will protect your company from cybercriminals.
  • To analyze legal requirements for data security.

Course Overview

If you are the 50% who believe that cyber-attacks are only targeted toward multibillion-dollar companies then you are wrong. 85% of reported Ransomware attacks are against SMBs.

A report states that among small companies, accounting firms are the most targeted. Your firm can also be on the list of hackers. Whilst adopting digital tools has helped accounting firms increase productivity and efficiencies, the dark side is that it has opened up a web of cyber threats and concerns. It’s time for accounting firms to increase their security measures and get ready to tackle advanced technology and upcoming cyber threats.

Cybercriminals have become sophisticated with their innovative ways to attack companies no matter how secure an accounting firm might be. However, like any small business, accounting firms also have weak entry points that are open for hackers to penetrate.

You have probably heard of some of the more common types of cybercrimes such as ransomware, spyware, computer viruses, phishing, vishing, spoofing, data breaches, denial of service attacks, hacking, etc.

This CPE course is designed by speaker Robert Minniti to familiarize small business accountants and auditors who are not information technology (IT) experts on data breach and cybersecurity risks and internal controls.

We will review the legal requirements for securing personal information. We will cover the material in a plain language, non-technical manner. We will cover what you need to know, but not how to write computer programs or code.

This course covers the following Major Topics:

  • Fraud Triangle
  • Cyber Fraud
  • Key Concepts
  • Cybersecurity Risks
  • Cybersecurity Risk Factors
  • Phishing, Vishing, & Smishing
  • Data Breach
  • Cybersecurity Risk Management
  • Cybersecurity Frameworks
  • COSO Framework for Internal Controls
  • COSO Requirements for IT
  • Key Internal Controls for Remote Employees
  • Best Firewalls
  • PCI Data Security Standard New Standard Implementation
