Building a Safer Workplace: How to Deal with Harassment and a Hostile Environment 1 Credit
Learning mode
Albert Einstein, one of the most significant scientists of the 20th century is quoted as stating that the definition of insanity is "Doing The Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results.”
Even though no evidence links him to the quote, it seems to be an appropriate way to explain what's been going on in companies for the past 30 years.
During that time, we've been conducting sexual harassment and related training, keeping records of our training, and using it to defend against harassment complaints. Sadly, the only thing that has become apparent in that time is that this training has not worked.
This CPE Business Management Webinar will attempt to approach the issue of workplace harassment from a different perspective. While it is important to understand what not to do, it is more important to understand what to do and what can realistically be done to deal with harassing behavior at work.
Harassment and assault are not always about sexual desire. Oftentimes, it is about power and the inequality of women and minorities in the workforce.
The focus in harassment training has always been on what not to do but there is relatively little focus on what to do. It is not necessary to teach adults not to grope their co-workers pull their genitals out or greet a staffer at the door wearing a towel. The fact that people don't know, is nonsense.
However, unless we describe the desired and appropriate behavior, it is too easy for individuals to fall into habits of behavior that are inappropriate or just downright unacceptable. What that means is that we need to describe the inappropriate behavior, label it as such, and then describe the appropriate behavior, along with examples.
Key areas covered in this course:
Join this PDC/RCH Webinar It will highlight some of those behaviors, including Psychological harassment, online or digital harassment, Quid pro quo harassment, Third party harassment.

Speaker is obviously experienced in larger enterprises. His comments are all in line with current chorus thinking. He did an admirable job of representing this perspective. I was hoping for a presentation that comprises more of the current challenges of fighting discrimination between generations. His gender based sensitivity consumed most of the presentation. I would request that the title of the seminar identify his major focus towards gender. Gender issues are old school. The big challenge today is the differences in perspectives of the generations. Boomers and even traditionalists are still in abundant numbers in the workplace, often out-performing those younger. There are obvious clashes between the groups where we are finding that the older, more experienced workers are out-performing the younger workers who are dedicated to work/life balance but expect the same compensation as the older ones who put in many more hours and are noticeably more productive and educated, with one exception to those devices that require key punch to operate. Please consider the unspoken hostility.
