CPE Credits for CNMI Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Professionals

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a designation given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to individuals that pass the Uniform CPA Examination and meet the education and experience requirements. The CPA designation helps enforce professional standards in the accounting industry. CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is the highest accounting credential in the United States. CPA ensures global recognition for accounting & finance professionals.

The CNMI - Board of Accountancy provides assurance to public that CPA (CNMI) operates at the highest level of professional competence through, verification of education and experience credentials.

CNMI CPA CPE REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW

CPE Requirements
120 hours per 3-year period; 20-hour annual minimum
License Renewal Period
December 31 triennially
CPE Reporting Cycle
January 1 - December 31 triennially
Ethics Requirement
4 hours every 3 years in the ethics course approved by the board or any other 4-hour accounting ethics or 4-hour business ethics course.
Subject Area Restriction
None. Subjects such as spirituality, personal health and/or fitness, sports and recreations, foreign language, and production which will not contribute directly shall not be allowed.

CNMI CPA requires 120 hours of CPE to be completed every 3 years, From January 1 to December 31 triennially, and must be reported to the Board by December 31st triennially as part of the renewal process.

What are CPE Requirements for CNMI Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Professionals?

CNMI State Board of Accountancy does not specify any subject areas for the study! It says that the subject area must contribute directly to the professional competence of a person. And hence all the programs approved for NASBA fields of study on myCPE shall be eligible for CPE Credits for CNMI CPAs.

The applicants whose initial certificates were issued substantially less than three years prior to renewal date are required to complete CPE hours on prorated basis.

Online renewal will require you to upload your CPE certificates of completion. If you do not upload your certificates of completion, you should keep your copies in case the board performs an audit of your CPE, you will be responsible for submitting copies of your certificates of completion and/or verification of courses at the time of the audit. You must retain your documentation for at least five (5) years from the date the program was completed.

The license renewal fees for CNMI CPA is $330.

A CNMI CPA can complete 100 percent of required CPE credits via self-study courses and the myCPE Packages for CNMI CPAs are 100% compliant with that requirement.

No CNMI does not allow courses completed via a short video (nano learning method) to count towards the CPA CPE requirement.

A registrant must report, at a minimum, the CPE hours required for the registration renewal period. Hours that exceed the number required for the current registration renewal period may not be carried forward to a subsequent registration renewal period.

You are in non-compliance if you do not complete at least 120 hours of acceptable CPE by December 31 and it will result in disciplinary action by the board.
