MINNESOTA(MN) CPA CPE REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW

CPE Requirements
120 hours for each three-year rolling period, with a minimum of 20 CPE credits per year
License Renewal Period

Minnesota CPA cannot carry forward credits in the next reporting cycle

  • Minnesota CPA can earn a maximum of 60 CPE Credits from Non-Technical courses.
  • Self-realization, Spirituality, Personal health or fitness, Sports and recreation, Foreign languages or cultures; and any other subjects that do not contribute directly to the licensee's professional competence are not allowed for CPE.

Minnesota CPA requires 120 hours of CPE to be completed in every three-year rolling period with a minimum of 20 hours per year and must be reported to the Board by December 31st of every year as part of the renewal process.

You are only able to report your CPE once per reporting year, so gather all pertinent information prior to beginning. If you need to make a CPE change after you report, you'll need to contact the BOA for assistance. You will be responsible for submitting copies of your certificates of completion and/or verification of courses at the time of the audit. You must retain your documentation for at least five (5) years from the date the program was completed.

Yes, the nano learning method is approved for Minnesota (MN) CPA to fulfill their CPE requirements but the courses should be from NASBA-approved sponsors only. As myCPE is NASBA approved all its nano learning courses are eligible for CPE credits 

  • A registrant must report, at a minimum, the CPE hours required for the registration renewal period. Hours that exceed the number required for the current registration renewal period may not be carried forward to a subsequent registration renewal period.
  • Carry back is allowed if you pay the required BOA CPE noncompliance fees. Carry-back hours can only be counted in the CPE year in which they are applied.

Any Minnesota (MN) CPA who fails to complete the CPE by June 30th is in non-compliance and failure to meet the CPE requirements for renewal during the renewal period may result in disciplinary action. The CPA will be required to pay late renewal fees of $50 for the first month or part of the month of non-compliance and $25 per month or part of the month of non-compliance thereafter until the date licensee is in compliance and provides documentation of compliance in writing to the board.
