Course Description

Learn from Excel expert David Ringstrom, CPA, how the Office 365 version of Excel 2016 differs from previous versions and perpetually licensed versions of Excel 2016. Historically, each version of Excel has been identical for all users, but that’s no longer the case. In this comprehensive course, David discusses updated features and worksheet functions available in the Office 365 version of Excel 2016, shows you step-by-step how to use them, and shares helpful keyboard shortcuts and tips.

David demonstrates every technique at least twice: first, on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps, and second, in the subscription-based Office 365 version of Excel. David draws your attention to any differences in the older versions of Excel (2019, 2016, 2013, and earlier) during the presentation as well as in his detailed handouts. David also provides an Excel workbook that includes most of the examples he uses during the webcast.

Office 365 is a subscription-based product that provides new-feature updates as often as monthly. Conversely, the perpetual licensed versions of Excel have feature sets that don’t change. Perpetual licensed versions have year numbers, such as Excel 2019, Excel 2016, and so on.

This Online CPE Webinar on Excel covers the following Key Topics:

  • Deselecting one or more cells from within a selection of cells without having to start over again with the selection process.
  • Updating Office 365 to take advantage of recently released features and improvements.
  • Mapping geographic data with just a couple of mouse clicks.
  • Jump-starting pivot tables by way of the Recommended PivotTables feature in Excel 2013 and later.
  • Streamlining the decision-making process with the IFS function in Office 365.
  • Exploring the Help menu introduced in Office 365 that provides immediate access to free training resources.
  • Understanding the risks and nuances of the AutoSave feature in Office 365.
  • Discovering how Office 365 no longer immediately clears the clipboard when you carry out a simple action, such as typing or inserting rows before pasting data.
  • Restoring the Workbook Sharing and Track Changes commands that have vanished in certain builds of Office 365.
  • Visualizing data with a Funnel chart, which is exclusive to the Office 365 version of Excel 2016.
  • Using Microsoft’s free Excel Online service to view and edit spreadsheets that use features from Office 365 that aren’t compatible with other versions of Excel.
  • Removing the background from pictures within Microsoft Excel.
