Course Description

This course is valid up to December 31st, 2023 for CFP Professionals. It is advisable to complete this course before that to process the credit on time.

Despite gains in labor participation over the last few decades, women continue to experience a gender pay gap which impacts the income stream available to save, spend, and invest at rates comparable to men.

Retirement and other long-term investment goals suffer, as a result. Unfortunately, the pandemic has reversed key trends in women-owned businesses and their labor participation rates overall. Studies continue to show that financial literacy is a cornerstone of economic stability and despite gains in other areas of life, women of all ages still report looking to someone else for assistance in understanding and guiding their finances.

When we view our financial lives as a pyramid, we start with a large base of safety and long-term protection and move progressively towards the apex, which is smaller and includes more aggressive investments. Just above the base, we include real estate and fixed-income investments. Learning about real estate, both as a primary residence as well as an investment property is a topic we explore in this course. We also look at fixed-income investments and how they can integrate into your portfolio.

This CE/CPE course by Ilene Slatko builds on the groundwork we established in courses 1 through 4 and explains how OPM (other people’s money) helps drive opportunities in real estate, specifically discussions about leverage, tax benefits, and potential passive income. Our money pyramid includes fixed-income investments, and we explore how to effectively structure the diversification of issuers, credit rating, and maturities.

This CPE course encourages participants to view financial empowerment as a critical and achievable goal. We continue to build each participant’s financial puzzle, a process that will continue throughout the 8 sessions.
