Course Description

Canada shares many similarities with other industrialized countries around the world, including a rapidly aging population.

Every day 1000 Canadians turn 65. Over 700,000 suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and 70 per cent of seniors will need long term care of some description. Even though Canada is a wonderful country to live, the health care system presents its own set of problems and barriers, particularly to aging Canadians.

The majority of Canadians do not understand how their provincial health care system works—until there is a health emergency and they need access to care and services. They also believe that the government will subsidize all their health care costs as they age, something no government can afford to do. In this CPD webinar we will review Canada’s health care system, the care continuum and the roles that health care professionals play in delivering care to aging Canadians. Finally, we will see the impact that COVID-19 has had on Canada’s long term health care system. Resources are included for ongoing reference and learning.
