Course Description

Craft the company’s story!

Stepping into the CFO role requires a transition from being a truth-teller in the organization to becoming a storyteller.

In this online continuing education course, we are going to look at getting started in a new CFO role. Whether this is your first appointment as CFO or perhaps you are transitioning to a new CFO role at another organization, we will look at different approaches for your first 100 days. We begin with a profile of the modern CFO, that is, what you need to bring to the organization. From there, we will look at team building principles and using proven tools to help you assess the existing finance function against best practices.  We will use a strategic approach to developing an overarching mission and value statement for finance to bring context to specific action plans.  We will look at structuring the finance function within the organization context to optimize and balance responsiveness to stakeholders with the need for control.  Finally, we will look at change management principles to help you initiate your first major project.

As the role of the CFO becomes more complex and accountability for driving value to the organization increases, it’s critical for new CFOs to manage a range of early responsibilities effectively to make their mark.

This online CPE course is designed to help either those of you aspiring for the senior most financial leadership role in your organization or those of you who have already attained it, but want validation of your approach. In some organizations this senior management role is described as the Chief Financial Officer, though in others it may also fall to a controller or another such title. Regardless of the positional label, this role embodies similar traits, skills, and leadership qualities.

Key topics covered in this online CPE webinar:

  • Business partnership and relationship management
  • Span of control and resource allocation
  • Develop the finance vision
  • Finance team skill assessment and development
