Social Security is good for providing a basic retirement income that you and your spouse can rely on. It is an integral part of retirement planning.

Social Security will comprise 40-60% of a retired individual's guaranteed income in retirement. It often provides benefits to two lives, so making the right claiming decision can significantly impact the amount of money available to a surviving spouse. Sadly, less than 4% of Americans claim benefits at the earliest age possible, taking a significant reduction in benefits, and often paying more taxes as well.
