Course Description

Ethical issues for tax practitioners typically arise from a conflict among the duties owed to the client, the system, and yourself. When conflicts arise, it is important to understand what standards will be used to judge your conduct.

The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) at the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is responsible for all matters related to "tax practitioner" misconduct, discipline, and practice before the IRS. OPR’s vision, mission, strategic goals, and objectives support effective tax administration by ensuring all tax practitioners, tax preparers, and other third parties in the tax system adhere to professional standards and follow the law. To report issues, concerns, or any problems that you may experience contact the OPR at Internal Revenue Service.

Circular 230 is where tax practitioners have their main source of ethics. Often practitioners can inadvertently go astray of these rules. Currently, the IRS only requires practitioners who represent taxpayers before the IRS to follow Circular 230 due to the Loving case. It contains the regulations governing practice before the Internal Revenue Service. Practice before the IRS includes all matters connected with a presentation to the IRS relating to a taxpayer’s rights, privileges, or liabilities under laws or regulations administered by the IRS.

In this practical CPE webinar, you will learn the ins and outs of Circular 230 along with real-life examples of practitioners who violated Circular 230.

This was the first tax ethics class I have taken, Nicholas made it very interesting, using lots of examples. Made a four-hour class on what could be very dry zoom by.

I thought the course and content was relevant to what I hoped to accomplish. However, there was considerable information on the exam that was not either covered in the content or made available. None of the questions about penalties were made clear and I had to do independent research to obtain the information to complete the test and one question in particular I was never able to find the answer.

too many mistakes in the questions. for example one question asked about section 6695 and provided answers for section 6694; Another question asks about omissions and the answers all contained the word admissions. Penalty maximums need to be updated in the questions. and answers

This is one of the worst CPE classes I have taken. The instructor looked like he had just gotten out of bed. The content in the webinar was not relevant to the quiz that was at the end of it. I had to google for the answers to the quiz. I would not recommend this at all.
