Course Description

When investors seek to return, most consider stocks.

However, there is a wealth of opportunities to invest in other items besides stocks and not just bonds, mutual funds, or foreign exchange. They're a fairly new dynamic asset class, alternatives cover a wide range of investments with unique characteristics. Alternative asset classes are fairly new, and create some levels of liquidity but provide attractive alternative means than stocks or mutual funds.

Most alternative investment assets are held by institutional investors or accredited, high-net-worth individuals because of their complex nature, lack of regulation, and degree of risk. Many alternative investments have high minimum investments and fee structures, especially when compared to mutual funds and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). These investments also have less opportunity to publish verifiable performance data and advertise to potential investors.

This Online CPE finance webinar aims to provide you with what alternative asset classes exist so that you are more informed for clients and can provide alternatives not previously considered.

Alternative investments like cryptocurrency, real estate, and opportunity zones offer greater portfolio diversification and lower overall risk with the potential for higher returns. As alternative investments become a larger part of the investing landscape and more available to different types of investors, they're increasingly important to know about for both investors and current or aspiring investment professionals hoping to accelerate their careers.

Learning Objectives

  • To analyze how to understand and discover alternative investments.
  • To discuss different types of alternative investments.
  • To create and implement the research considerations required based on risk and liquidity.
  • To discuss how to decide what is a good alternative for your clients.

Solid presenter. The course title didn't reflect the majority of the course content. The content is solid information (different types of asset classes and briefly touched on why one might / might not want to invest in a particular class). However - based on the title I expected more time and a deeper dive into crypto, real estate, and opportunity zones.

45 minutes into the webinar, the presenter finally got to alternative investments like cryptocurrency, real estate, and opportunity zones. At that point there's barely enough time to scratch the surface let alone do a deep-dive. Clearly the presenter is knowledgeable and skilled as a presenter but the course title and description led me to think I was going to learn something completely different than what he taught. The actual content is great for a novice investor but not a seasoned investor or CPA who's been in practice for some time.
