Course Overview

This Online CPE finance course is designed to be an introductory course on business valuations.

Valuation is a process that involves defining the fair market value of an entity. Valuations are required in many situations, including business reorganizations, shareholder disputes, employee stock or share option plans, mergers and acquisitions, and expropriations to name a few.

Most professionals see valuations as a central basis of proper decision-making for organizations, both in the present and in the future. Even though it is not possible to predict the future, for businesses to survive, they need to prepare for uncertainty.

In this online CPE webinar participants will be exposed to various business valuation methodologies.

A business valuation might include an analysis of the company's management, its capital structure, its future earnings prospects, or the market value of its assets. The tools used for valuation can vary among evaluators, businesses, and industries. Common approaches to business valuation include a review of financial statements, discounting cash flow models, and similar company comparisons.

Major topics included:

  • Consulting vs Testifying Experts
  • Business Sales Vs Asset Sales
  • Valuation engagements
  • Major Organizations
  • Forensic Accounting Designations
  • Professional Standards
  • Small business financials
  • Reasons for Performing a Valuation Engagement
  • Standards of Value
  • Basic Analysis of a Business Valuation
  • Common Valuation Approaches
  • Levels of Value
  • Valuation Report

In this CPE course speaker, Dr. Robert Minniti will discuss why business valuations are performed and the importance of maintaining standards so that the valuation opinion can be presented in a court of law.

Dr. Minitti presented the material in an extremely organized fashion. He presented lots of details but the slides were clear and he gave practical relatable examples throughout. Unfortunately I had to listen to the presentation an extra 50% because the clock stopped at 45 minutes when I had to pause. It did not restart and I didn't;t want to risk skipping ahead even in case it didn't register that I had indeed listened - and taken notes- through the entire session. Oy!
