Course Overview

Planning for retirement starts with thinking about your retirement goals and how long you have to meet them. To have a comfortable, secure—and fun—retirement, you need to build the financial cushion that will fund it all. The key part of the same is to build strong planning to reach there. Retirement planning includes identifying sources of income, estimating expenses, implementing a savings program, and managing assets and risk.

Analyzing retirement plan distributions is hard enough without the uncertainty of a global pandemic. The changes implemented by the SECURE Act and CARES Act add another layer of complexity for taxpayers nearing retirement or re-evaluating distribution plans in light of current market conditions.

In this CE/CPE course, speaker Warren Bergstein will review the pension law known as ERISA and its legislative history leading up to the SECURE Act. Changes made temporarily by the CARES Act are also explored.

Changes made by the Act have profound effects on how distributions are made from qualified plans, changes in contribution rules, and effects on other plans including Section 529 plans. Financial planners will be made aware of Congress’s reasoning for making these revisions. That understanding will help to understand what may lie ahead as legislators grapple with even more changes, some favorable to our clients, others not so.

Presenter clearly was an expert on the topic at hand. The pace of the course was a bit slow, but I'm sure that's appreciated by most of those learning an unfamiliar topic.
