Secure 2.0 have added options for surviving spouse beneficiaries to be treated as the deceased spouse when inheriting IRAs from their late spouse.
This option allows the surviving spouse to use the more advantageous Uniform Lifetime Table to calculate RMDs from the deceased spouse’s IRA.
Although the new regulations won't be in place until 2024, it's not too early to get familiar with them so that you can use this option to assist your customers in similar circumstances in the future. The new rules could be particularly beneficial if the younger spouse dies first or the surviving spouse remarries.
This CPE course by Drew Steven will cover the changes in the RMD rule, social security overview, spousal benefits, divorce benefits, and more.
At this time, Nano-learning is not accepted by all state boards. If you are not sure whether your state board accepts Nano-learning, you can ask your state board or visit the NASBA registry.
