The FASB on March 15, 2023, proposed a package of income tax disclosure rules that will require companies to provide more transparency about their exposure to changes in tax legislation and the global tax risk they may face.
It particularly affects the reporting of state income taxes, potentially ending the practice of calculating blended state rates. The proposed ASU requires public business entities to provide qualitative descriptions of state and local jurisdictions impacting income tax. It also mandates all entities to disclose year-to-date income taxes paid, disaggregated by federal, state, and foreign amounts. Further disclosures are needed for jurisdictions with taxes exceeding 5 percent.
This CPE Nano-Learning course by Laura Thessin will explain the proposed FASB changes, and their potential impact on income tax disclosures, rate reconciliations, disclosure requirements by public entities, and more.
At this time, Nano-learning is not accepted by all state boards. If you are not sure whether your state board accepts Nano-learning, you can ask your state board or visit the NASBA registry.
